Clerestory House, Dulwich

Whole house refurbishment, loft conversion and extension of an end of terrace Victorian townhouse in a Conservation Area. Prior to the project, the old kitchen was very dark with cramped seating and minimal outlook to the garden.

The design focussed around an extension to the Ground Floor, creating a new open plan kitchen and dining room. To retain side access to the rear garden, the width of the new extension was constrained.

A key objective for the design was to optimise the proportions of the internal volume of the extension, so a bespoke wall build-up and kitchen design was developed. The exposed structural frame of the extension wall was constructed in high quality oak and set-up a rhythm, within which a bespoke set of kitchen units were installed. This thereby minimised their projection into the main kitchen thoroughfare and delivered a greater floor area; as well as a generous feel to the space.
