Inclined House, Highgate
Extension and replanning of the Ground Floor of an end of terrace house in Highgate. The aim of the project was to reconnect the previously dislocated kitchen to the rest of the ground floor, to create a more dynamic and connected living-space better suited for family life and for hosting guests.
There is a distinct angle between the existing house and garden. A key consideration for the design of the extension was to mediate these geometries, and to create a visual connection between internal and externals spaces. Planning constraints and site levels influenced the development of an inclined roof form, creating a generous volume above the dining table and glimpse views of the meadow roof above through a band of clerestory windows.
